Since the start of the year, the whole world is a stage of standstill due to COVID-19. It started in China earlier this year and spread all around the world. It took thousands of lives and many are millions are infected. Many countries are in a stage of lockdown from a couple of months. This pandemic has hit the economy of big countries. Many people have either lost their jobs or sitting in their homes waiting for the end of this pandemic.
As many people are very cautious about spending. The evidence is the recent report published by Strategy Analytics. In the first three quarters of 2020, Samsung A51 takes the lead with the best selling android phone. Xiaomi’s 8 takes the second place in the list. There are many flagship mobiles that could not make their place in the top 10 categories. However, Galaxy S20 ranked six on the list.
According to Juha Winter, Strategy Analytics Associate Director, ” All these changes are due to COVID-19 pandemic. The general public is now price sensitive. Many countries have cut off subsidies on the mobile industry. People are now concerned with a device that gives them more features at a very affordable price. Android took the advantage and is now on a post premium era”.
In similar research conducted by Canalys, they had the same views that mid-range mobiles led the market. However, they put Xiami’ android phone on the 1st place and Samsung on the 2nd. But the main point is they agree on the same line.
If we look at the past year’s statistics, we find out a similar trend in 2019 as well. However, this year has continued the same trend but the growth rate is high. Canalys also put Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro Max and 11 Pr as the best selling mobile phone of the year with a sixth and tenth spot on the list. But, recently Apple has also started to enter into a low price model market with its new iPhone SE model. Soon we can see a change on their mobiles as well.
